Remove/Replacing Left Or Right Rear Shock Absorber
It can only be determined whether a shock absorber must be replaced by checking it with a shock tester while it is installed or with a shock absorber test machine while it is removed.
Remove trunk trim panel. Service and Repair
Support trailing arm on workshop lifter (1) and release bolt.
Caution: The shock absorber has the function of an arrester band. To prevent damage to the output shaft, do not remove the support or raise the vehicle.
Installation:
Thrust washer (2) on rubber mount must point to bolt head.
Tightening torque, refer to Technical Data 33 52 1AZ.
Unscrew nuts.
Installation:
Replace self-locking nuts.
Tightening torque, refer to Technical Data 33 52 3AZ.
Note: If a reinforcing plate (1) is fitted on left side of vehicle, you must then:
^ reinstall reinforcing plate (1) on left side
^ seal left and right support bearing with butylene tape (2).
Support bearing arrangement:
1 = Nut
2 = Joint seat
3 = Support bearing
4 = Supporting ring
5 = Support element
6 = Auxiliary spring
D = Seal
