Fuel Gauge does not Read Full

MODEL
E46 3 Series Vehicles produced August 2001

Vehicles may also be affected that were manufactured outside the above manufacturing period, if a repair has been performed since August 2001 involving the replacement of the instrument cluster and coding with DIS CD version 27.0.

SITUATION
With a full tank of gasoline, the fuel gauge does not read full. The needle stops just short of the full mark

CAUSE
The wrong coding data was used during vehicle production on some E46 vehicles with instrument cluster SW2.3, Coding index 6.

CORRECTION
In case of a customer complaint, recode the Instrument Cluster using DIS CD27.1, or later:

1. Select "Coding/programming"

2. Select "3 ZCS Coding"

3. Select "7 E46 Series"

4. Select "1 Recoding"

5. Select "10 Kombi".

6. Select "2 Recode control unit".

Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the coding process.
