GROUP 64

Woodcliff Lake, NJ
Service Engineering

February 2002

SUBJECT
IHKR Blower Inoperative in a Certain Position

MODEL
E39 5 Series, E53 X5 from start of production until June 2001

SITUATION
The blower of the air conditioning system (IHKR) does not operate after switching on the ignition or starting the engine. The problem only occurs if the regulator for the air supply (blower regulator) is slightly to the left of the center position (approximately in the "11" o'clock" position).

If the regulator is then moved on the control panel, the blower will start up again and will continue to run without any fault occurring.

Vehicles with automatic air conditioning system (IHKA) are not affected by this fault.

CAUSE
Software error in the air conditioning control panel.

CORRECTION
In case of customer complaint, replace the air conditioning control panel. Refer to the latest repair instructions RA 64 11 748, "Removing and installing heater controls (A/C control)".
