Removing And Installing Fuel Tank
CAUTION!
After the installation of the fuel tank / Prior to the first engine start-up:
Check the electrical resistance between the ground lug (tank filling pipe) and the wheel hub. Measured value: approx. 0.6 Ohms
Fill fuel tank with at least 5 liters of fuel.
Draw fuel out of fuel tank.
With special tool 34 1 030, unfasten lock nuts. Twist lock nuts and adjustment nuts completely out of handbrake cables and pull Bowden cables downwards out of their guide tubes.
Installation:
Adjust handbrake.
Remove rear right wheel.
Remove rear right wheel arch trim.
Unfasten hose clip (1) and remove hose from tank.
Remove the propeller shaft completely.
Remove heat shield (1) from tank
Remove handbrake Bowden cables from guide tubes.
Unfasten screw and remove cover from rear axle bearing (1).
Unfasten hose clips (1 return line, 2 inlet line), mark fuel lines and remove hoses.
Open hose clip (3) with pliers and remove hose (only for park heating).
Unfasten screws and remove front straps.
Installation:
Note rubber mount with spacer bush.
Wide collar on spacer bush faces towards screw head.
Note shim in locating tab.
Heavily support the fuel tank.
Unfasten screws for left and right tank mounting then lower tank until hose connections and plug connections are accessible.
Installation:
Note rubber mount and washers on left and right tank.
Left half of tank, Re move connector (1) from fuel level sensor, unfasten hose clips (2/3) and remove tank vent lines.
Right half of tank,
Remove connector (1) on fuel delivery unit.
Unfasten hose clip (2) and remove tank vent line.
Lower the fuel tank and remove downwards.
