Notes For Steel and Glass Sliding/Tilting Sunroof:

The sliding/tilting sunroof is capable of being diagnosed.
Initialization comprises:
- Normalization
- Learning characteristic curve







Initialization (normalization, learning characteristic curve) is carried out
- when function defects occur,
e.g. no tip function, no opening or no comfort function possible;
- after unfastening the drive;
- after every interruption in power supply;
- before adjustment of slide/tilt sunroof lid;
- during work on cables.







NOTE:
The function "Learning characteristic curve" is required on the following cars:
- All E39 from 3/98

"Learning characteristic curve" follows immediately after "Normalization".
During "Learning characteristic curve", the forces of the lid movements are measured, thereby preventing accidental deployment of the anti-trapping protection facility







CAUTION! There is no anti-trapping protection during initialization (Normalization and Learning characteristic curve)







Normalization:
- Press and hold down switch in raise position direction.







- Once raising limit position (A) has been reached, keep switch pressed for approx. 20 seconds.
- Normalization is only terminated when the lid in raising limit position (A) presses again briefly in direction of raising limit position (B).
- All E39 from 3/98, continue with "Learning characteristic curve"


Installation:
All E39 up to 3/98
Carry out function check (tip function, anti-trapping protection and, if necessary, comfort function).







Learning characteristic curve:
- After Normalization,
- release switch for max. 5 seconds;
- then press and hold down switch for at least 15 seconds in raise position direction;
- the roof begins to lower and opens completely;
- keep the switch pressed;
- the lid closes again after briefly stopping in the position "Open";
- keep the switch pressed;
- the lid remains in the position "Closed";
- Learning characteristic curve" is now complete and the switch can be released.

Carry out function check (tip function, anti-trapping protection and, if
necessary, comfort function)
