Axle Shaft Assembly: Service and Repair

Removing and installing or replacing output shaft
Remove exhaust system.
Remove wheel, refer to Steering and Suspension.

Unfasten screws.

Installation:





Use washers (1).
Tightening Torque, refer to Differential, Specifications.





Unfasten collar nut (1).

Installation:
Replace collar nut.
Tightening Torque, refer to Differential, Specifications.
Secure collar nut (1) by peening.





Press out output shaft with special tool 33 2 111 / 116 / 117.

With height sensor:





Remove control arm on wheel carrier.

Installation:
Tapered pin and bore free of grease. Tightening Torque, refer to Differential, Specifications.
Unfasten shock absorber from wheel carrier.
Lift wheel carrier with jack and remove output shaft.

Installation:





Square head (1) on rubber mount points towards head of screw.
Tightening Torque, refer to Differential, Specifications.

Installation:





Pull in output shaft using special tool 33 2 115 / 116 / 118.
