Headlight Assembly
Xenon Lowbeam Headlights
The 750iL is equipped with the third generation Xenon headlights. The new system is manufactured by Bosch and uses the D-2 gas discharge bulb.
The D-2 bulb requires a much lower voltage to maintain lamp operation, once the arc is established. The operating power consumed by the D-2 system remains the same as the previous Xenon lamp at 35 watts.
An ellipsoidal lens continues to be used to project the beam of light, to an optimum point on the road surface, for maximum lighting efficiency
The components of the system remain the same with the control module and Igniter incorporated into one housing which is mounted directly to the headlight assembly.
Operation
When the lights are switched "ON", the control module and igniter supply the high voltage (18-25kV) required to strike the arc. A buffer capacitor continues to supply high voltage until the D-2 bulb is in its operation phase. The voltage is then reduced, dependent on the temperature of the arc as the lamp burns.
As with the previous system, there are no serviceable components of the Xenon system. The control module and igniter have to be replaced as a unit. The only replaceable part of the light assembly is the Halogen H-1 high beam bulb.
