MY '01 E36/7 - M roadster/coupe with S54 engine
SITUATION
BMW has become aware of a potential problem that could affect the durability of Air Mass Meter of certain MY' 2001 BMW automobiles equipped with the Motorsport S54B32 engines. We estimate that only a small percentage of vehicles will actually develop a problem. Vehicles affected may have a Service Engine Soon light illuminated with an "Air Mass Meter signal plausibility fault FC 41(29 hex)" stored in the Engine Control Module (DME). Also, in certain cases, DME faults 174/175 (AE/AF hex) - "Fuel system diagnosis, bank 1/ bank 2" - may be caused by the erroneous readings of the Air Mass Meter.
CORRECTION
[NEW] In the event that the Air Mass Meter of a 2001 E46 (M3 coupe/convertible), or E36/7 (M roadster, M coupe) with S54B32 engine exhibits the symptoms listed above, it should be replaced with the improved part (PN 13 62 7 830 359). For air mass meter replacing instruction refer to RA 13 62 560 found in BMW TIS.
