Water/Mildew Staining of Soft Top or Headliner

SITUATION
If the soft top is lowered into the stowage compartment while wet, and allowed to sit for a period of time, water stains or mildew can form on the top or headliner material. This often happens when a hardtop is installed over the winter months.

Customers should be made aware of the necessity of ensuring that the soft top is completely dry before it is lowered, especially if it will be left down for an extended period of time. This information can be found in the Owner's Manual under "Caring for your vehicle", and should be pointed out to customers with hardtops.

CORRECTION
In case of customer complaint, the top material can be cleaned with BMW Convertible Top Cleaner, part number 83 12 9 408 856, followed by a thorough rinsing with clear water.

The headliner can be cleaned by brushing with a soft brush or cloth, and if necessary, an upholstery cleaner.
