Exhaust System: Service and Repair
Removing and Installing Complete Exhaust System (S62)
Special Tools Required:
- 31 2 220
- 31 2 220
Necessary Preliminary Tasks:
- Unscrew and remove splash guard.
- Disconnect plug connection for oxygen sensor/monitor on left and right.
Warning!
Scalding Hazard!
These tasks should only be carried out on an exhaust system that has cooled down!
Remove cable holder (1)
Disconnect plug connection for exhaust temperature sensor on left.
Information: Discontinuation of exhaust temperature sensor, please refer to TSB for more information.
Remove cable holder (2).
Disconnect plug connection for oxygen and monitor sensors on left and right.
Support exhaust system with special tool 31 2 220. (Weight approx. 50kg)
Detach suspension element on catalytic converters at rear from body.
Unscrew catalytic converter on left and right from exhaust manifolds.
NOTE:
The connections between exhaust manifolds and the catalytic converter are only fitted with sealing rings on the inner tubes.

Installation:
Check sealing rings, replace if necessary.
Replace self-locking nuts.
Coat thread with copper paste -CRC-.
Release screw connection (1) on both exhaust pipes.
Remove pipe clamps (2).
Release hexagon nuts (1) on inside of rear muffler on left and right.
Installation:
Replace self-locking nuts.
Release hexagon nuts (1) on outside of rear muffler on left and right.
Installation:
Replace self-locking nuts.
Remove complete exhaust system.
