Axle Shaft Assembly: Service and Repair

On M5 models, the same repair sequence applies to removing and installing the left and right output shafts.





Vehicles with pneumatic suspension:
Pull fuse of air supply system.
This prevents unintentional system control.
Release pipes on distributor block in order to reduce system pressure. The vehicle stands low.
Tightening torque, refer to Differential, Specifications.





Release screws on left and right.
Tightening torque, refer to Differential, Specifications.

Installation:
Fit shims (1).

Remove and install a stub axle/wheel carrier, refer to Steering and Suspension.

Except vehicles with M54:
Remove and install pressure rod/integral link, refer to Steering and Suspension.





Remove rear axle shaft.
