SUBJECT:
Passenger Mirror does not "Tilt" when Selecting Reverse
MODEL:
E53 (X5) 3.0L vehicles produced before 8/28/00
Situation:
With the mirror switch in the driver position, the passenger mirror does not tilt when reverse gear is selected. In addition, there is no option for seat/mirror memory in Vehicle and Key Memory.
Cause:
The seat/mirror memory option code (0459) is missing in the central coding key (ZCS).
Correction:
On a customer complaint basis only, change the SA line of the ZCS code, then recode the General Module.
Procedure:
Using DIS, or MoDiC,
1. Select "Coding/Programming"
2. Select "ZCS coding"
3. Select "E53 Series"
4. Select "Recoding"
5. Select "IKE/Kombi"
6. The screen displays "IKE/Kombi" has been selected?" - Answer "Yes".
7. The screen displays the VIN with the question "Chassis # change?" - Answer "No".
8. All (3) lines of ZCS code are displayed with the question "Change?" - Answer "Yes".
9. The GM line of code is then displayed with the question "Selection correct?" - Answer "Yes"
10. The SA line of code is then displayed with the question "Selection correct?". - Answer "No"
-- Using the keypad displayed on the screen, overwrite the SA line with a new SA line, advancing the last (2) characters of the SA line by "1". (For example, SA line: 200000308C901A00L changes to 200000308C901A01M. In this example, the "0" advances to "1", and the "L" advances to "M")
-- Answer "Yes" to the question "Selection correct?"
11. The VN line of code is then displayed with the question "Selection correct?". - Answer "Yes"
12. All (3) lines of ZCS code are displayed with the question "Change?". Check SA line to confirm the correct input - Answer "Yes" if correct. Answer "No" if not correct, and repeat ZCS code entry from Step 9
13. Follow the on screen instructions to complete the change of ZCS code.
14. Select "ZCS coding"
15. Select "E53 Series"
16. Select "Recoding"
17. Select "GM (ZKE III)"
18. The screen displays "GM III" has been selected?" - Answer "Yes".
19. Follow the on screen instructions to complete the recoding of the General Module (ZKE)
