Removing or Installing Front or Rear WheelTo avoid tensioning errors and imbalance, proceed as follows:
- Loosen wheel bolts.
- Wheel position with valve facing downwards.
- If several wheels are simultaneously removed, mark installation location of wheels on tires (e.g. with a piece of chalk).
- Mark wheel with respect to wheel hub.
- Mark lockable wheel bolt with respect to wheel.
- Release wheel bolts, remove wheel.
Caution:
Contact surfaces between brake disk and disk wheel and between brake disk and wheel hub must be free from grease.
Remove all traces of dirt, grease and corrosion from contact surface (1) of brake disk.
Note:
Degrease contact surface with universal cleaner.
Remove all traces of dirt, grease and corrosion from contact surface (1) of disk wheel.
Note:
Degrease contact surface with universal cleaner.
Check brake disk retaining bolt (1 ) for secure seating.
Caution:
Retaining bolt must under no circumstances protrude over contact surface (2) between brake disk and disk wheel.
Apply a thin coat of grease to wheel centering (1) in disk wheel.
Wheel studs with separate taper (1).
Clean wheel bolts and threads for damage, replace, if necessary.
Replace rusty wheel bolts.
Caution: Do not oil new wheel bolts.
In the case of used wheel bolts, apply an extremely thin coating of engine oil to the threads and tapers before reinstalling them.
Caution:
To screw in and tighten down wheel studs: Do not under any circumstances use pneumatic or electric screwdriver.
Caution:
Disk wheel must rest uniformly against brake disk.
Screw in wheel bolts and tighten by hand in diagonal sequence to center disk wheel.
Tighten down wheel bolts in diagonal sequence with a torque wrench.
