Trailer Reverse Light Function

MODEL:
E53 (X5) Vehicles produced before 2/12/00 with Xenon Lights (SA522)

Situation:
When installing Trailer Hitch Kit P/N 71 60 0 009 711, an additional wire must be added to the vehicle harness. The trailer reverse lights will not operate without this additional wire.

Procedure:
This procedure should be performed at the time of the trailer hitch kit installation otherwise the vehicle must be disassembled in the spare tire well area to access the affected vehicle wire harness connectors.





1. Locate the X393S 12 pin black connector (1) and the X609 15 pin black connector (2) located in the spare tire well area





2. Cut a 16 gauge wire, 36" in length. Remove the wire insulation from ends and crimp a male pin, P/N 61 13 1 376 193 (2) to one end. Crimp a female pin, P/N 61 13 1 376 204 (3) to the other wire end.





3. Insert the female pin end (1) into pin location 2 on connector X609 (2).





4. Insert the male pin end (1) into pin location 8 on connector X393S (2).





5. Route the wire (3) as shown and use nylon tie straps to retain the wire to the vehicle harness.
