SUBJECT:
Fuel Gauge Stays Empty after Refueling / Fuel Gauge Erratic

MODEL:
Z3 roadster/coupe, M roadster/coupe (E36/7). Vehicles produced before December 15, 2000

SITUATION:
The customer complains that after refueling the fuel gauge stays on empty, or the operation of the fuel gauge is erratic.

For Z3 from 9/98, and M roadster/coupe, FC 2 (Fuel sensor voltage plausibility) will be set in the Instrument Cluster.

CAUSE:
The formation of a non-conducting deposit on the conductor surface of the fuel level sensor

CORRECTION
On a customer complaint basis only, remove and replace the fuel level sensor with "Gold system" sensor (refer to repair instructions 16 12 000).
