Replacing Right Knock Sensors (Cylinder Bank 1 - 4)




Replacing Right Knock Sensors (Cylinder Bank 14) (S62)

Interrogate fault memory of DME control unit.
Switch off ignition.
Remove manifold for intake air.


NOTE: Remove and install idle speed control valve.







Unclip plug connections (1) and (2).
Release screws (3).
Remove retaining bracket (4).







NOTE: For a better overview, the following work step is shown on an engine that has been removed.


Disconnect plug connection (1) of right knock sensor pair from cable duct.

Remove and install throttle actuator.







Loosen screws (1).
Unclip cable of knock sensors from cable guides.


NOTE:
Knock sensor (2) monitors combustion of cylinders 1 and 2.
Knock sensor (3) monitors combustion of cylinders 3 and 4.


Caution! Confusing the plug connections of knock sensors gives rise to engine damage. The routing of wires and the plug connections must correspond to the original routing so as to avoid mix-ups.


Interrogate fault memory of DME control unit. Check stored fault messages. Rectify faults. Now clear the fault memory.
