Removing And Installing/replacing Alternator (S62)

Switch off ignition.
Follow instructions for disconnecting and connecting battery.
Remove battery negative lead from battery and cover.
Remove alternator drive belt.







E39 only:
Unclip battery positive lead (1) from cable holders (2).







E39 and E52:
Remove cap from deflection roller.
Release screw (1) and remove deflection roller.
Release screws (2) on alternator.


Caution! The belt pulley of the power steering pump must not be damaged when the alternator is removed.







Release screws (1).
Remove belt pulley (2) for power steering pump.

E39 only:
Remove alternator and pull out towards front until electrical leads can be released.







Disconnect plug connection (2) on alternator.
Release nut (1).

Installation:
Tightening torque, 12 31 1AZ.
Remove battery positive lead from alternator.
Remove alternator.







Installation:
Press out bushes on engine support.
