SUBJECT
"Follow Me Home" Lights Not Functioning Correctly

MODEL
E46 (3 Series) Vehicles produced September 2001 until November 2001.

SITUATION
The "Follow Me Home" lights are activated by operating the headlamp flasher when the vehicle is parked with the exterior lighting switched off. If the vehicle is then locked straight away, the headlamps will go out immediately.

CAUSE
Coding fault in the light switching center (LSZ).

CORRECTION
On a customer complaint basis only, recode the LSZ using DIS CD 31.1 or later using DISPlus/GT1:

1. Select "Coding/Programming"

2. Select "Coding ZCS/FA"

3. Select "Series E46"

4. Select "Recoding"

5. Select "LSZ"

6. Confirm "LSZ selected. Selection correct?" with "Yes".

7. Confirm "Should LSZ be permanently allocated to vehicle?" with "Yes".

8. Confirm "Vehicle identification number correct?" with "Yes".

9. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the coding process.
