Checking Injector Valves For Leaks and Cleaning

CHECKING FUEL INJECTORS FOR LEAKS AND CLEANING:

- Remove all fuel injectors.
- Mark sequence of injector valves relative to cylinders on each injector valve.

Ultrasonic Cleaning Unit 13 6 200:

For Operation: refer to Owner's Manual.

Check Injector Valves For Leaks:

- Clip injector valves into special tool 13 6 205.

- Connect special tool 13 6 206 to the injector valves.

- To remove residual fuel from the injector valves, connect special tool 13 6 206 to a 12 V vehicle battery.
- Place clean cloth under injector valves to catch residual fuel.
- Connect special tool 13 6 205 to compressed air at maximum pressure of 3 bar.
- Residual fuel is now blown out of the injector valves.

CAUTION: A leak check of the injector valves is not possible until residual fuel has been blown out!

- Separate special tool 13 6 206 from the injector valves.
- Regulate air pressure at connection (1) on special tool 13 6 205 to 3 bar.
- Install injector valves with special tool 13 6 205 in a container with hot water (60... 80°C).
- Note volume of water emerging.
- Permitted volume of water emerging: 2 air bubbles per injector valve within a 15 second period.
- Note injector valves with larger volumes of water emerging.
- Injector valves with larger amounts of water emerging must be cleaned.
- Remove injector valves from water and dry well with compressed air.

Clean Injector Valves:

- Install injector valves in special tool 13 6 205.
- Connect special tool 13 6 206 to the injector valves and to a vehicle battery.

- Attach injector valves to special tool 13 6 200 with special tool 13 6 205.
- Charge special tool 13 6 200 with cleaning agent concentrate 13 6 203 in accordance with manufacturer's specification.
- Follow cleaning cycle specified by manufacturer.
- Repeat leak test on cleaned injector valves.

CAUTION: Perform leak test in water bath as well as in cleaning fluid!

- Only replace injector valves from which volume of air emerging exceeds the permitted limit of 2 bubbles within a 15 second period.

CAUTION: New injector valves must be flushed with fuel after about 5 minutes to remove the preserving agent. Install injector valves in engine and operate engine.

- Install cleaned injector valves in engine immediately and operate to ensure that any residual cleaning agent is flushed out.
- This prevents corrosion to the injector valves.
- Due to the risk of corrosion, cleaned injector valves can no longer be stored.
