Hood: Adjustments

41 61 014 Aligning Hood Lid

Note:
- Engine hood was fitted and bolted in an unfinished body shell.
- Unpainted surfaces become visible after subsequent movement.
- These surfaces must be touched up with paint in the body color.

Detent screw on left or right hinge (1) must be set to dimension (A).
A = 25 ± 1 mm

Note: Detent buffer (2) must not be damaged. Replace hinge if necessary.

Caution:
- Bowden cable on both hood locks must be set to zero backlash.
- Entire sleeve on Bowden cable must locate in guide in lock otherwise, when release lever is pulled, Bowden cable slips into guide and it is no longer possible to open locks.

Adjust cable on adjusting fixture to be without play.

Caution: Cable must not have tension.

If necessary, adjust actuating stroke of Bowden cable.

Turn back detent buffer.
Fitting in hood lid:

Caution: Do not damage intermediate plate between hinge and hood: replace if necessary.

Loosen bolts (1 and 2) of left and right hinges.

Note: If the adjusting range is not sufficient, loosen hood lid mounting bolts on body and adjust hinge on body.

Align hood lid to side panels at front and side.
Retighten loosened bolts.

Adjust height of hood lid on the hinges: Close hood lid carefully.
Determine height setting, measure deviation and open hood.

Secure hood lid.

Caution: If hood lid is not secured, body and windshield can be damaged.

Unfasten screws (1) and (2) and fit or remove suitable number of washers to correct the deviation in height setting.
Tighten loosened screws consecutively on left or right sides.
Close hood lid, check height setting and correct if necessary.

Unfasten screws of left and right arrester hooks.
Lower hood lid several times so that the locks can be centered.

Caution:
- Do not let the hood lid lock.
- Retighten loosened bolts.

Unscrew nut (1) and turn lockpin (2) to adjust height of the engine hood.
Adjust hood lid to same height on both side walls.
Ensure that uniform gap is obtained on front trim.
Tighten nut.
Check for correct locking of locks and retaining hook, adjusting if necessary.

Adjust detent buffer on hood lid:
Raise hood lid.
Unscrew detent buffer until hood lid is under slight preload.

Procedures:
The dimension by which the detent buffer should be unscrewed can be determined as follows:
Shape some butylene tape until two columns about 10 mm in height are formed.
Then place these on the two detent buffers (top or bottom detent buffer) then close the hood lid.
Open hood lid and measure the dimension of the compressed butylene tape.
Unscrew detent buffer for a distance of +0.5 mm until the hood lid is under slight preload.
Follow same procedure on the other detent buffers.
After the adjustment, check that hood lid is flush against detent buffers and if necessary repeat the adjustment.

Caution: The hood lid must not protrude beyond the front side panels since this otherwise gives rise to wind noise.

Measure and, if necessary, correct distance (A) = hood lid protrusion beyond the headlight lens.
Dimension (A) = 4 ± 1 mm

To adjust the amount of protrusion, loosen the screws and adjust the headlights accordingly.

Caution: Do not twist the headlights: if necessary adjust the lower retaining screws.

Check headlight adjustment and adjust if necessary.
