SUBJECT
Board Monitor Radio Cuts off after 40 Seconds
MODEL
E53, E39 with DSP and NAV
SITUATION
Intermittently the BM53 Board Monitor Radio cuts off 40 seconds after starting the vehicle. The radio station continues to be displayed on the BM display and settings can be changed, but there is no sound.
The red "radio on" indicator remains illuminated. If the radio is switched "off" then "on" using the rotary push button, the sound is restored but cuts out again after 40 seconds.
Cycling the ignition key restores the radio to normal operation.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
This Service Information involves E53 with DSP, NAV and BM radio SW V7.0 produced from April 02 through September 10th 2002, and B39 with DSP, NAV and BM radio SW V7.0 produced from March 02 through August 02.
CAUSE
Start up timing for the radio and the DSP amplifier is not correct.
CORRECTION
On a customer complaint basis only, install a harness adapter with RC-Filter.
After installing the harness adapter with RC-filter, the DSP amplifier switches on with a time delay of approximately 5 seconds after starting the vehicle.
Do not replace any components, this will not fix the problem.
