Removing And Installing/Replacing Rear Left Or Right Shock Absorber (Touring)

Note: Whether a shock absorber has to be replaced can only be ascertained by testing while it is installed with a shock tester or while it is removed with a shock absorber test machine: refer to Suspension Specifications, refer to Technical Service Bulletins.

Caution! Pull retainer off air supply unit to ensure that accidental feedback control of the system cannot occur.

Remove trunk floor trim.





Unscrew bolts and take off cover.

Installation:
Replace seal.





Press protective cap down on longitudinal sides and pull off.
Support wheel carrier with workshop hoist. The brake hose must not be exposed to traction loads.





Unscrew nuts.

Installation:
Replace self-locking nuts. Tightening Torque, refer to Suspension Specifications.
Unfasten and remove shock absorber from swinging arm.






Installation:
Guide bush (1) into hole of swinging arm. Tightening Torque, refer to Suspension Specifications.
Brace piston rod with ring spanner and unfasten nut. Remove thrust bearing.






Installation:
Follow installation sequence, refer to image.
Replace self-locking nut. Tightening Torque, refer to Suspension Specifications.
