SUBJECT
Factory Tire Pressure Setting
MODEL
All
SITUATION
In order to avoid flat spots on the tires, which can occur during long periods of vehicle transportation, the tire pressure is set high at BMW factories.
Correct tire pressure is essential for the safety of the driver and passengers. Incorrect tire pressure can lead to poor ride & handling qualities, reduced braking performance, and in some cases to vehicle instability, and tire damage.
PROCEDURE
For new vehicles received from Vehicle Processing Center/Factory and prior to delivery to the customers, the inflation pressure of each tire must be checked and set according to the "Load up to 4 persons" (For Roadsters: "Load up to 2 persons") value specified on the label affixed to the vehicle's left B-pillar or left front door.
For E53 X5, the tire pressure may be set according to the Axle Weight Rating ("Load up to 4 persons"), i.e. 32 psi for both front and rear tires.
Note:
The recommended tire pressures are also listed in the Owner's Manual.
Customers should be advised to regularly check the tire inflation pressures, at least every two weeks and before starting for a long trip.
