SUBJECT
Distorted Bass from Door Speakers

MODEL
E46 3 Series coupe and convertible produced 09/01 - 02/02

SITUATION

Some customers may complain of a distortion in the bass range when playing music with heavy bass, especially on cars equipped with Harman-Kardon HiFi speakers system, option code 674.

CAUSE
The door woofer can get the vapor barrier and door trim panel to move, distorting the bass range.

CORRECTION
In case of a customer complaint, foam insulation can be installed to dampen the movement of the insulation and trim.

PROCEDURE
Remove both door trim panels per Repair Instruction, section 51 41 000.
