SUBJECT:
Brake Pedal Rattles when Released Quickly
MODEL:
X5 E53
SITUATION:
Some customers may complain of a rattle when they release the brake pedal so that it pops back to the rest position. This is due to play between the pin and the push rod to the booster.
CORRECTION:
As of September 2000 production an "0" ring has been installed on the pin to take up the play that causes the noise.
In case of customer complaint, this "0" ring may be installed on earlier vehicles that exhibit the noise.
PROCEDURE
Remove the under dash panels to gain access to the pedal linkage.
Remove the clip (1) holding the pivot pin in the pushrod (2), and remove the pin. Install a part number 64 50 8 390 601 "0" ring onto the pin and re-install the pin and clip.
WARRANTY INFORMATION
Covered under the terms of the BMW New Vehicle Limited Warranty.
