SITUATION

Occasionally a vehicle may be received with paint surface imperfections such as dirt inclusions, minor scratches, swirl marks, or acid etchings.

These paint surface imperfections should be polished out prior to delivery of the vehicle to the customer.

PROCEDURE

Wash, clean, and dry the vehicle before performing the following polishing procedures:

1. Mask surrounding moldings, trims, door and hood jams to protect them from any polishing residue and dust.

2. Use a digital paint thickness gage to measure and record the clear coat thickness of surrounding imperfections. Do not remove more than to 12.5 microns or 0.5 mils (0.0005 inches), otherwise the Ultra Violet protection contained in clear coat will be removed and this will cause further damage to the paint.

3. Use color sanding block or paper (2000-3000 grade) pre-soaked in water for a minimum of 15 minutes to carefully remove any dirt inclusions.

4. Use an alcohol based glass cleaner or Meguiar's M-34 Final Inspection to remove any residue.

5. Apply a small amount of Meguiar's M-84 Compound Power Cleaner onto the area surrounding the imperfections.

6. Use Meguiar's W-7000 Foam Cutting Pad on a rotary polisher to remove sanding marks. Use 1200-1700 rpm speed range polisher for optimum performance or follow manufacturer's recommendation.

7. Use an alcohol based glass cleaner or Meguiar's M-34 Final Inspection to remove any residue.

8. Apply a small amount of Meguiar's M-82 Swirl Free Polish onto the area surrounding the imperfections.

9. Use Meguiar's W-8000 Foam Polishing Pad on a rotary polisher or random orbital dual action polisher to polish out the affected areas. Use 1200-1700 rpm speed range polisher for optimum performance or follow manufacturer's recommendation.

10. Use an alcohol based glass cleaner or Meguiar's M-34 Final Inspection to remove any residue.

11. For maximum protection, apply Meguiar's M-26 Hi-Tech Yellow Wax as a final paint surface protection.

12. Completely re-wipe entire car with Meguiar's M-34 Final Inspection.

Notes:

1. Always use personal protective equipment such as safety glass and respirator to protect against dust.

2. Procedures 3-7 may be skipped for removing minor scratches and swirl marks.

3. When removing polish and wax, always use a micro fiber cloth such as Meguiar's M-9910 Ultimate Wipe.

4. While polishing, always ensure that the surface do not get too hot. If the surface feels hot, stop and wait until the surface cools.

5. When using the polisher, do not bear down the tool on the surface. Always let the tool do the work.

6. Hi-tech Yellow Wax Meguiar's M-26 contains some silicone and carnauba wax. This product must be stored away from paint and refinishing processes.
