Removal and Installation


Removing and Installing or Replacing Final Drive
Note: After completion of work, check transmission oil level.

Caution: Use the approved gear oil in this final drive.

Failure to comply with this instruction will result in serious damage to the final drive.

Remove propeller shaft from final drive.





Grip propeller shaft at center bearing and release nuts.

Tightening torque, refer to Specifications.





Release screws on left and right.

Tightening torque, refer to Specifications.

Note: Fit shims (1).





Support final drive with special tools 33 4 390 and 00 2 030.

Note: Observe distance between special tool 33 4 390 and dust protection sleeve (1). A bent dust protection sleeve (1) may result in the build-up of noise.

Caution: Comply with following installation sequence in order to prevent torsion stress on final drive during installation and thus avoid complaints about noise:
^ Install final drive with lifter.
^ Install retaining screws (do not tighten down).
^ Remove lifter.
^ Tightening sequence:
^ Tighten both front screws.
^ Tightening torque, refer to Specifications.
^ Tighten rear screw.
^ Tightening torque, refer to Specifications.





Release screws.

Note: Right retaining screw is covered by heat shield.

Therefore: release rear 3 retaining screws on heat shield. Pull heat shield down a little.

Installation:
Install screws, do not tighten down.

Comply with installation sequence.





Release nut and remove screw.

Detach vent line from final drive.

Remove final drive towards bottom.

Installation:
Install screw and nut, do not tighten down.

Comply with installation sequence.

Replace self-locking nut.
