Trunk / Liftgate: Adjustments
41 62 014 Fitting Trunk Lid (Z3 Coupe)
NOTE:
- Engine hood was fitted and bolted in an unfinished body shell.
- Make unpainted surfaces visible by also moving the hinges.
- These surfaces must be touched up in the appropriate paint color.
NOTE:
- When installing a new trunk lid, in order to avoid damage to paintwork, make sure there is a sufficient gap between trunk lid and body.
- If necessary, attach fabric tape to points of contact on body.
Open trunk lid.
Check sliding members (1) on lower section of trunk lid lock for damage.
If necessary, push sliding members out towards top and replace.
Unclip plastic covers (1) from lower section of trunk lid lock.
Slacken screws (1) on lower section of trunk lid lock so that it can be moved easily.
Remove stop pads (1) on trunk lid on left and right.
Pull off cover (1) on trunk lid hinge on left and right towards bottom.
Slacken screws (1) on trunk lid hinge on left and right until trunk lid can still be moved.
CAUTION: Gas spring struts are under pretension.
Secure trunk lid against dropping down, remove left and right gas spring struts.
CAUTION: When closing trunk lid, make sure body and / or trunk lid is not damaged.
Close trunk lid.
NOTE: Trunk lid lock must not rest against lower section of lock.
Adapt gaps and position of trunk lid to body.
To avoid wind noises: Trunk lid (1) must not protrude over roof (2).
Measurement (A) = approx. 1 mm.
Open tailgate and secure to prevent it from dropping.
Tighten down screws (1) on trunk lid hinge on left and right.
Check previous adjustments again.
If necessary, repeat work steps.
CAUTION: Gas spring struts are removed. Unsecured trunk lid drops down without damping:
Keep release button pressed down. Close trunk lid.
NOTE: Trunk lid lock must not snap into place. Lower section of trunk lid lock centers itself.
Open tailgate and secure to prevent it from dropping.
Tighten screws (1) in lower section of trunk lid lock.
Check previous adjustments again.
If necessary, repeat work steps.
Clip plastic covers (1) onto lower section of trunk lid lock.
NOTE: Do not mix up covers of trunk lid hinges. Pay attention to identifying markings.
LH = left cover
RH = right cover
Push on cover of trunk lid hinge on left and right.
Install left and right gas spring struts.
Screw in stop pads and check whether closed trunk lid rests on stop pads on left and right.
NOTE: Trunk lid must not protrude over side walls as this would cause torsion stress in height adjustment:
