Remove Or Replacing Clutch
Special Tools Required:

Remove transmission.
M60 / M62 / M70 / S70 / M73:
Lock flywheel with special tool 11 2 070.
M40 / M41 / M42 / M43 / M44 / M50 / M51 / M52 / S50 / S50US / S52 / S54:
Lock flywheel with special tool 11 2 170.
Release screws 1 turn in diagonal sequence until tension is relieved on clutch cup spring.
Remove clutch and clutch plate.
Clean flywheel and clutch, check for wear and damage.
Replace flywheel/clutch if necessary.
Check deep-groove ball bearing in crankshaft for ease of movement and leaks and replace if necessary.
Check flywheel retaining screws for oil leaks and replace if necessary.
Check clutch plate for damage and friction rust in hub profile and replace if necessary.
Caution: Always replace clutch plates which have been contaminated by foreign substances (oil, cleaning agents, ...).
Checking clutch plate for wear: Measure lining protrusion on lining rivets at closing head (A) in each case.

Clutch plate must be replaced if lining protrusion at closing head (A) is less than 1 mm. Connect clutch plate to cleaned transmission drive shaft and check that it can move easily.
Installation:
1. Flywheel/dual-mass flywheel
2. Clutch plate
3. Clutch
Caution: Handle clutch plate with care, do not touch surfaces of friction linings.
Install clutch plate (2) in correct position.
Pay attention to text Engine end" / "transmission side".
5-speed transmission:
Center clutch plate with special tool 21 2 130.
6-speed transmission:
Center clutch plate with special tool 21 2 120.
Caution: S50 engine: use new screws.
Fit clutch to flywheel.
Insert screws by hand in order to avoid to avoid cap distortions (which can result in grabbing of clutch during startup).
Tighten down screws 1 turn in diagonal sequence.
Remove special tools.
