Caution:
- A 2nd person is required here to assist in performing this task.
- The rear window and the convertible top must not come into contact with solvents, greases etc.


NOTE: Removal is described separately from installation. Removal and installation are different.

Removal:
- Heat up vehicle to approx. 20 °C room temperature
- Lower side windows
- Open convertible top gently (relieve tension).
In event of a technical fault: open convertible top by hand.







Slide clip (1) on inside zip fastener to one side and detach.
Open zip fastener.
Unhook roofliner.

7. Zip fastener
(zip fastener for roofliner is not shown)
8. Counter-support plate







Caution: Do not damage zip fastener.

Using a screwdriver, bend open four claws of locking clip on inside of rear window at bottom middle.







Remove counter-support plate on inside of rear window.







Lift outside of PVC welt in middle with fishbone.
Pull convertible top fabric approx. 100 mm out of PVC welt.
Detach locking clip.







Open zip fastener from inside with fishbone.







Unfasten rear window from outside by applying gentle pressure and press inwards to remove.
Remove remnants of sealing tape from fabric top by hand, completely and without using solvent.

Installation:
Installation is described separately from removal. Removal and installation are different.







Caution: When installing new rear window, protect from dirt and damage.

Install new rear window from inside.
Push zip fastener slide initially at base of rear window onto blue zip fastener lug.







2nd person holds rear window from outside and makes sure that zip fastener slide does not stick.
Insert second half of zip fastener on fabric top in zip fastener slide so that both leading fabric edges (1) of zip fastener are flush.

Note: Permitted offset of leading fabric edge (1):

- Max. 1 tooth (2)

If the rear window is slightly uneven, the teeth can be offset in the other direction.

Caution: Zip fastener must not reopen at the start when closed.







Close zip fastener slowly.
Remove zip fastener slide.







Insert locking clip from outside through zip fastener

Note: Positioning of locking clip:

- Overlap of leading fabric edges at start and en fastener







Fit counter-support plate to inside and bend tips into place.

Note: Counterpressure from outside required on the locking clip.

Stick on sealing tape from locking clip until flush with welt and detach protective film.

Caution:
- Place protective cardboard on rear window with fleece face downwards to ensure that this is not damaged when working with the fishbone.
- Counter support required from inside.








Raise leading fabric edge at sides and into rounded areas.
Clean this area with spirit or methanol and allow to dry for approx. 5 minutes.
Apply an even coating of profile rubber adhesive (sourcing reference: BMW Parts Service) to rear side of leading fabric edge and sealing tape and allow to dry for approx. 10 minutes. Raise PVC welt with fishbone and insert convertible top fabric without folds, rub firmly with fishbone.

Note: Counter support required from inside. If necessary, rub off any excess adhesive.







Remove protective cardboard.
Close zip fastener of roofliner in same way as installation of rear window.
Slide clip (1) onto inside zip fastener.
Close and lock soft top.

Note: Sealing tape must harden. The fabric top must therefore not be folded for the next 24 hours.
