SUBJECT
Battery Discharged after CPT8000 Telephone Installation

MODEL
E46 from 9/02 Vehicle Production

SITUATION
After installation of a CPT8000 telephone the battery is completely discharged overnight.

CAUSE

1. The vehicle is pre-wired for a Mayday/Roadside switch, although not equipped, causing the TCU to keep the vehicle awake.

2. The TCU may be causing the BUS systems to not properly enter sleep mode.

PROCEDURE 1

1. Charge and test the battery.

2. Perform battery draw test per SI B61 08 00.

3. If an excessive draw is found and a CPT8000 telephone is installed, disconnect the TCU and recheck draw.

4. If excessive draw is gone then the adapter harness (p/n 84 11 0 146 722) needs to be modified.

5. Remove adapter harness from vehicle and follow procedure as outlined below.

6. Remove the BR/GE wire (1) from pin 26 location of the 54 pin TCU harness adapter and insulate and tape back using electrical tape.

7. Remove the BL/GE wire (2) from pin 31 location of the 54 pin TCU adapter harness and insulate and tape back using electrical tape.

8. Reinstall the adapter harness and recheck battery draw and proper phone operation.

[NEW] PROCEDURE 2

1. Check the part number of the TCU If the part number is not 84 11 0 151 576, then replace the TCU with part number 84 11 0 151 576. Please install this part number on all future new telephone installations for E46.
