Removing And Installing Complete Front Axle (With Spring Struts)(Basis)
After assembly, bleed the power steering unit.
Remove steering wheel.
Unscrew and remove splash guard.
Disconnect ABS pulse generator line, refer to Brakes and Traction Control Antilock Brake System.
Brake caliper lines remain connected - remove on left and right and tie back to body, refer to Brakes and Traction Control; Disc Brake System.
Suspend engine in installation position with special tool.

Remove clamping screw and remove joint from steering gear.
Installation:
Tightening Torque, refer to Steering Specifications.
Recycling:
Observe country-specific waste-disposal regulations. Draw power steering fluid out of tank - do not reuse.
Unfasten lines on steering gear and seal bore.
Installation:
Replace sealing rings (D).
Tightening Torque, refer to Steering Specifications.
Warning! Release bolt connection of front axle support from side of car - no personnel are permitted to stand underneath the front axle! Danger of injury!
Support front-axle carrier with trolley jack.
Partially loosen trim beside rear screws.
Unscrew left and right bolts.
Installation:
Tightening Torque, refer to Suspension Specifications.
Damaged thread, refer to "Notes" at Service Precautions. Service Precautions
Unscrew left and right nuts.
Installation:
If necessary, insert centering pin of support bearing into bore in wheel arch.
Replace self-locking nuts.
Tightening Torque, refer to Suspension Specifications.
Caution! Spring strut shock absorbers must not tilt or hang outwards - damage to ball joints and wheel bearings.
Lower car jack - each spring strut must be held by a separate person.
