Steering: Testing and Inspection


Checking Function Of Power Steering Vane Pump (Basis)
Before checking all hose connections, check pump and steering gear for leaks.
Unscrew and remove splash guard.

Caution! All parts must be absolutely clean! No dirt is allowed to enter the system.






Disconnect pressure line from pump and connect to special tool 32 4 000 connection (2).
Connect special tool 32 4 104 with banjo bolt and 2 sealing rings to special tool 32 4 000 connection (1).
Screw special tool 32 4 104 into pump.

Checking pump pressure:
1. Close valve (A).
2. Open valve (B).
3. Start engine.
4. Correct hydraulic fluid level in tank, refer to "Bleeding Power Steering Unit" at Steering.
5. Heat hydraulic fluid to approx. 50° C by moving steering wheel at increased engine speed.
6. Close valve (B) for max. 10 seconds and read pressure.
If nominal pump pressure, refer to Steering Specifications, is exceeded by more than 10% -> replace vane pump.
If nominal pump pressure, refer to Steering Specifications, is undershot by more than 10% -> replace vane pump.

Note: Connect pressure line after removing special tool. Tightening Torque refer to Steering Specifications.

Bleed hydraulic system, refer to "Bleeding Power Steering Unit" at Steering.
