SUBJECT
With Key Removed, Kombi Shows Shift Indicator in Drive, Kombi Still Powered
MODEL
B39 (5 Series) Vehicles produced 9/01 to 9/03, E53 (X5) Vehicles produced 10/01 to 10/03
SITUATION
Typical symptoms, with the key removed from the vehicle are:
^ The shift indicator shows the vehicle in Drive even though the vehicle is in Park
^ The Instrument Cluster remains powered up
^ The brake lights remain on.
If a battery reset is performed, normal operation is resumed.
CAUSE
[NEW] Software error in Instrument Cluster.
PROCEDURE
[NEW] In case of a customer complaint, replace the Instrument Cluster with version SW 17 or later. Refer to the EPC for the correct part number.
Note:
All defective parts have been cleared from parts stock.
