SUBJECT
Center Armrest Grab Handle Replacement
MODEL
E39 (5 Series)
SITUATION
The coating on the grab handle at the front of the center armrest can peel, which in the past necessitated the replacement of the entire armrest pad.
CAUSE
The grab handle was not available separately through the parts system.
CORRECTION
Replace the grab handle only.
PROCEDURE
The grab handle is now available under part number 51 16 7 141 735. To replace the handle, remove the center armrest pad assembly per Repair Instructions, section 51 16 ..., and use a plastic trim tool to pry the handle out of the pad assembly. Snap the new handle into place and reinstall.
Warranty claims to replace the entire pad assembly when only the handle is defective will no longer be accepted.
