Throttle Position Sensor: Description and Operation
THROTTLE POSITION SENSORS
The position of the throttle plate is provided to the ECM by a set of dual "feedback" potentiometers. This potentiometer assembly is integral in the unitized MDK. This signal is used by the ECM to interpret the exact throttle position. The potentiometer is supplied with 5 volts, and as the throttle is moved, the varying voltage of the potentiometer represents the position of the throttle valve. The monitoring of throttle plate position is used by the ECM plausibility checking as compared to the driver's wish sensors. The dual potentiometers are used for back up redundancy (failsafe).
