Replacing Head Airbag In Rear Compartment




Removing And Installing/Replacing Left Or Right Head Airbag In Rear Compartment (Version Without Slide/tilt Sunroof)


WARNING!
Observe safety regulations for handling airbag modules and pyrotechnical seat belt tensioners.
Incorrect handling can activate airbag and cause injury.



Remove headliner, (version without slide/tilt sunroof).
Remove panel for parcel shelf.
Remove panel for parcel shelf (with roller sun blind).
Remove panel for parcel shelf (with through-loading system).
Remove panel for parcel shelf (with roller sun blind and through-loading system).

Installation overview, head airbag in rear compartment












Release screws in head airbag cassette in rear compartment.

Installation:
Tightening torque.Specifications







Disconnect plug connection for gas generator of head airbag in rear compartment.
Unlock plug connection.
Release screws from head airbag gas generator in rear compartment on parcel shelf.

Installation:
Tightening torque. Specifications







NOTE: Due to unfavorable tolerance positions, it is possible that the retaining bores of the head airbag gas generator do not match up precisely with the tapped holes on the parcel shelf.







In this case, the inner bracket on the parcel shelf must be realigned.
No additional work is permitted on the head airbag gas generator!

Installation:







The gas lance must not brush against the body!
In critical areas, it may be necessary to fit a liner made of felt between the gas lance and the body!


CAUTION!
Do not damage rear window when removing gas lance from retainer.








Remove gas lance (1) with head airbag cassette in rear compartment from retaining clip.







Installation:
Lay cables between gas lance and body so as to eliminate any risk of abrasive contact.


NOTE: Rear window removed for purposes of clarity!
