Removing and Installing Engine

11 00 050 - Removing and installing engine (N73)





Special tools required:
- 11 0 000 11 0 000 Engine Lifter for Removing and Installing Engines





Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Disconnect battery negative lead. (Follow instructions for disconnecting and connecting battery) Instructions for Disconnecting and Connecting Battery.
- Lift engine hood Procedures into assembly position.
- Remove radiator design cover.
- Remove both air cleaner housings Service and Repair.
- Remove fresh air duct Removing and Installing/Replacing Left or Right Fresh-Air Duct (Automatic A/C High) on left/right.
- Remove bulkhead 51 71 085 Removing and installing center of assembly compartment bulkhead, equipment compartment, center.
- Release engine wiring harness Replacing Wiring Harness Section for Engine from electronics box.
- Drain coolant Service and Repair.
- Remove coolant expansion tank Service and Repair.
- Remove radiator Service and Repair.
- Remove A/C compressor drive belt Replacing A/C Compressor Drive Belt.
- Remove alternator drive belt Replacing Alternator Drive Belt.
- Release fuel lines Service and Repair, feed and return lines.
- Remove front/middle underbody protection.
- Remove reinforcement plate Service and Repair.
- Remove exhaust Removing and Installing Complete Exhaust System.
- Remove left exhaust manifold Removing and Installing/Replacing Left Exhaust Manifold.
- Remove right exhaust manifold Removing and Installing/Replacing Right Exhaust Manifold.
- Remove transmission Removing and Installing Automatic Transmission (6HP26Z/6HP32Z).





Note:
Resecure front axle support after removing both manifolds.

Installation:
Tightening torque 31 10 1AZ Front Axle Suspension.

Do not detach oil lines from automatic transmission to heat exchanger.





Secure starter motor (1) with transmission screw (2) against falling out.





Release A/C compressor (1).
Release power steering pump (2).

Note:
Secure all connecting leads with cable ties (3) against falling down.





Detach plug connections (1) on tank vent valve cyl. 1-6 and 7-12.
Disconnect tank vent line (2) and lay to one side.
Disconnect vacuum line (3) and lay to one side.





Unlock and detach water hoses (1).
Unlock heater hose (2) and detach in direction of arrow.

Installation:
Plug connections of water hoses are correctly fitted when they snap into place with a clearly audible click.





Unlock water hose (1) on auxiliary water pump and detach in direction of arrow.





Unlock hose (1) and detach from secondary air pump.
Secure automatic transmission heat exchanger (2) with cable tie (3) against falling down.

Note:
Engine removed for purposes of clarity.





Place engine oil cooler (1) on suction bridge.
Secure engine wiring harness (2) against falling down with cable tie (3) on suction bridge.
Mount special tool 11 0 000 11 0 000 Engine Lifter for Removing and Installing Engines on engine.





Remove screw (1) on left and right engine brackets.
Unfasten ground strap (2).
Remove engine.
