SUBJECT
2003 MY Various Complaints Caused by Software Errors

MODEL
B65, E66 (7 Series) from 9/2002 to 6/2003 Vehicle Production

SITUATION
Customers may complain of the following:

1. Airbag light is on, Safety Information Module (SIM) FC 93D9 "Overvoltage shutdown".

2. All doors unlock automatically as soon as the engine is switched off and the remote is removed from the Car Access System (CAS).

3. Afier a telephone call has ended, the audio volume changes to a default value. Vehicles produced from December 16, 2002 until February 2003.

4. A rapid double-click on the iDrive controller while in the "Tone selection" menu resets the sound settings. Vehicles produced from September 2002 until February 2003.

5. When the engine is switched on, "Initialize Tire Pressure Control" is displayed. Vehicles produced from September 2002 until February 2003.

6. Vehicle settings (for example: the settings for the freely allocated Multifunction Steering Wheel (MFL) button, Park Distance Control (PDC) screen settings, and the language in navigation menu settings) automatically change on their own. Vehicles produced from September 2002 until February 2003.

7. When a vehicle is parked for extended periods exposed to high ambient temperatures, the Control Display may have a delay in startup (screen remains dark). Vehicles produced from September 2002 until December 2002.

8. The boot lid closing procedure cannot be stopped using the interior button. Vehicles produced from December 16 2002 until February 2003.

9. When Vehicle and Key Memory (VKM) is set to active, the steering column does not move to the correct stored settings when a different remote is used.

The following software errors were corrected with the release of CIP 8.2 (Target Data Status 6.114)

1. After the Digital Motor Electronics (DME) was programmed using CIP 7.0 or 7.1 the customer may have driveability complaints, check engine light is on, "Engine malfunction due to driving style" appears in Control Display, multiple faults are stored in DME: misfire detection, manifold pressure sensor, air mass meter, Valvetronic power limitation, etc.

2. The airbag warning light is on. The following fault codes are stored in fault memory, Satellite Sensor, Right Front Door (STVR) 96E2, and Satellite Sensor, Left Front Door (STVL) 9662 "communication pressure sensor" sets at low ambient temperatures.

3. If a destination was stored in the Speech Processing System (SVS) address book and is recalled, a new destination, which was not previously stored, is adopted and the system initiates route guidance for that destination.

4. The airbag warning light is on. SZL FC 94EA "Steering Wheel Module communication" is stored. If the fault returns after updating the vehicle software using CIP8.2 or higher, replace the "Steering Wheel Electronics" control module.

5. After a brief interruption of the audio system Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) bus reset) the volume adjustment switches to a louder/quieter setting.

6. Radio stations stored in the Control Display are deleted, moved or replaced by an unknown frequency.

7. The sounds system emits a pop/crackling noise when the vehicle is started at low ambient temperatures. Only vehicles equipped with Logic7 Amplifier.

8. When the auto headlight mode is active, the headlights do not turn off when vehicle is driven from dark ambient light conditions to brighter ambient light conditions. (Vehicles produced from March 2003 to June 2003 or vehicles that were updated with CIP 7.22).

9. E66 N73 Harsh 2-1 downshift when coming to a stop. Electronic Transmission Control (EGS) control module calibration error.

[NEW] The following software errors were corrected with the release of CIP 9.2 (Target Data Status 6.126)

1. CPT8000 CDMA Telephone address book sub menu is not displayed.

2. BMW Assist menu in European mode (not selectable).

3. CPT9000 telephone automatically calls Roadside Assistance.

4. Hesitation on acceleration from a stop.

5. Emergency transmission program when engine is started, EGS FC 4FB2 internal fault 3 (watchdog).

6. When the engine is switched off the warning "The transmission automatically shifts to P when the engine is switched off. Please consult your BMW center as soon as possible" is displayed. EGS FC 51 AC (CAN ID sensor inserted) is stored.
