July 2008
Technical Service

PERFORM THE PROCEDURE OUTLINED IN THIS SERVICE INFORMATION ON ALL
AFFECTED VEHICLES THE NEXT TIME THEY ARE IN THE SHOP FOR MAINTENANCE
OR REPAIRS.

SUBJECT
Service Action: E65 and E66 with N62, N62TU, or N73 OBD Communication

MODEL
E65, E66 with N62TU produced from 03/05 to 03/07

E65, E66 with N73 produced from 12/02 to 03/07

E65 (Alpina B7) with N62 produced from 11/06 up to 03/07

SITUATION
The OBD-relevant transmission information may not be transmitted when using aftermarket "Scan Tools" during state emissions inspection tests. The vehicle does not meet the EPA/CARB compliance certification.

This will not cause any drivability issues.
In order to correct this situation, BMW is conducting a Service Action to reprogram and recode control modules on all affected vehicles. With the completion of this Service Action, the software of the complete vehicle will be updated as described in SI B09 05 01 (Coding, Individualization,
Programming), Procedure B.

AFFECTED VEHICLES
This Service Action involves 750i and 750iL vehicles with N62TU engines produced from 03/01/05 up to 02/27/2007; 760i and 760iL vehicles with N73 engines produced from 12/17/2002 up to 02/27/2007;
and BMW Alpina B7 vehicles with N62 engines produced from 11/01/2006 up to 02/27/2007.

In order to determine whether a specific vehicle is affected by this Service Action, it will be necessary to utilize the "Service Menu" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or the Key Reader. Based on the
response of the system, either proceed with the corrective action or take no further action.

The chassis number ranges listed are only for informational purposes and are not to be considered as the only deciding factor.

PROCEDURE
Reprogram and recode the complete vehicle using the current Progman version (target integration level of E065-06-09-530/800 or higher).

LABEL INSTRUCTIONS

This Service Action has been assigned code number 524. After the vehicle has been checked and/or corrected, obtain a label (SD 92-352) and:

A. Emboss your BMW center warranty number in the middle of the label (1);

B. Punch out code number 524 (2), printed on the
label; and

C. Affix the label to the B-pillar as shown.

If the vehicle already has a label from a previous Service Action/Recall Campaign, affix the new label next to the old one. Do not affix one label on top of another one, because a number from an underlying label could appear in the punched-out hole of the new label.

WARRANTY INFORMATION
Covered under the terms of the BMW New Vehicle Limited Warranty or Emissions Warranty.
