12. Connect the MOXA box between the vehicle TCU and the vehicle harness:
^ Disconnect the vehicle TCU connector.
^ Connect MOXA connector (6) to the vehicle harness.
^ Connect the MOXA connector (5) to the vehicle TCU (the TCU need not be removed from the vehicle).
NOTE:
The remaining unconnected connectors (5) and (6) must not be connected together, or the procedure will fail.
13. Turn the ignition on (KL-15).
14. From the Progman Homepage screen, using Progman V24.01.00 or higher, select "New Session".
Note:
Start the Progman session via the Software Service Station (SSS). Do NOT start a MOXA Progman session via the DISplus or GT-1 using Progman V22.x.
15. Select the correct MOXA box (NP 5110) from the list, and then name the session.
16. Select the MOXA box, then select "Continue"
17. Follow the on-screen prompts.
18. At the "TEL repair" screen, select "TEL repair".
19. Follow the on-screen prompts.
20. Confirm that all cables going to and from the MOXA box are connected properly.

23. Follow the on-screen prompts.
NOTE:
^ You will be requested to press the "Reset" button on up to four separate occasions.
^ The session will time out after 15 minutes if the "Reset" button is not pressed when requested. Performing the programming overnight will fail because the "Reset" button needs to be pressed for the process to complete successfully.
24. Follow the on-screen prompts.
25. At the "Please start a new vehicle session...." screen, no action is required. Select "Continue"
26. Follow the on-screen prompts.
27. The Final Report will indicate if the repair was completed successfully (check value = 0)
28. If the TCU repair failed (check value = 2, 3, 4), it must be replaced. Proceed to step 31.
Note:
If a check value of "1 "is displayed on the final report, try reprogramming the TCU again using the MOXA box. If a check value of "1" is displayed a second time the TCU should be replaced.
29. Turn the ignition off and allow the MOST-bus power down (4 minutes). Disconnect the MOXA harness, reconnect the 54 pin connector on the TCU and reassemble the vehicle as necessary.
Note:
Disconnecting the MOXA harness before the vehicle assumes sleep mode may damage the TCU.
30. Using Progman V24.01.00 or higher, program and code the complete vehicle. Refer to SI B09 05 01 "Coding, Individualization and Programming", Procedure B. Note that Progman will automatically reprogram all programmable control units that do not have the latest software.
31. After successfully updating the vehicle, follow step 42 below.
TCU REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE
32. Refer to TIS (RA 84 11...) for the TCU replacement procedure.
33. Before installing the new TCU, remove one copy of the Electronic Serial Number (ESN) label and place it on the repair order for reference during warranty claim entry. You will be asked for the new TCU "ESN" when submitting a claim via DCSnet. Refer to SI B01 10 05 for more details.
34. The second ESN label of the TCU should be affixed over the existing label in the Owner's Manual insert (P/N 01 49 0 157 963).
35. Complete the TCU installation.
36. Using Progman V24.01.00 or higher, program and code the complete vehicle. Refer to SI B09 05 01 "Coding, Individualization and Programming", Procedure A.
37. Proceed to step 42.
Note:
It is NOT necessary to obtain a replacement authorization number as outlined in SI B84 23 05 (Enhanced Support for BMW Assist(TM) Telematics Control Unit (TCU) with Bluetoothreg; & CPT9000 Phone Systems) prior to replacing the TCU if the NAD recovery procedure outlined in the SI does not repair the NAD.
[NEW] DEACTIVATION OF TELEMATICS
38. If the NAD is faulty and the customer is NOT an active BMW Assist subscriber, the TCU should NOT be replaced. The Telematics functionality of the TCU must be deactivated via Progman.
39. Refer to the retrofits section of SI B09 05 01 and select "Active/Deactivate Telematics". This will add "+TELD" to the vehicle order. Follow the onscreen prompts to complete this procedure.
40. On E65, E66 vehicles, all versions of Progman prior to V24 will require a modified vehicle order (VO) to retrofit the deactivation of Telematics. Create a PuMA case to obtain a modified VO. After obtaining the modified VO from the hotline, adapt the VO and perform a complete vehicle encoding.
41. Verify the repair.
^ E.g. if there was a Bluetooth functionality issue, check to make sure all Bluetoothreg; Telephone functions works without errors.
^ E.g. the popping/cracking noise has been eliminated before returning the vehicle to the customer.
42. This will eliminate BMW Assist as a selectable option in the radio, Control Display (CD) or Central Information Display (CID). This means the option to "Enable Services" will no longer be a selectable option.
INITIALIZATION & TEST OF BMW ASSIST SERVICES
43. BMW Assist must be initialized in the below scenarios:
^ E65, E66, E90, E91 vehicles from 3/05 to 8/05 production.
^ E60, E61, E63, E64 vehicles from 7/03 to 8/05 production.
^ If the TCU is replaced on any vehicle (except pre 3/05 production E65, E66 vehicles).
Refer to SI B84 15 03 (BMW Assist(TM) Initialization) for the BMW Assist initialization procedure.
^ The vehicle must be in the Verizon Wireless Network for the initialization procedure to work properly. If the vehicle is not in the Verizon Wireless Network perform the outlined procedure and then follow these additional steps. For a complete list of BMW centers outside of the Verizon wireless network refer to SI B84 15 03.
^ Create a PuMA case to received TCU shipping authorization.
^ Remove the TCU from the vehicle.
^ Send via FedEx the TCU and a copy PuMA case to:
BMW of North America, LLC.
Attn: Body Electrical Technical Hotline (TCU Reactivation B84 23 06) 1 BMW Plaza
Montvale, NJ 07645
^ BMW of North America, LLC will initialize the TCU and ship it out on the same business day it was received.
^ After receiving the TCU back from BMW of North America, reinstall the TCU and place a BMW Assisttrade; call as outlined in step 38.
^ All shipping charges (both ways) are to be billed to the dealer's Fed-Ex account. On the warranty claim, submit the Fed-Ex shipping charges (double the amount provided to you by Technical Hotline to cover shipment both ways) in the sublet section (using sublet code 4).
44. Test the BMW Assist(TM) service for proper operation by placing a test call (press the Roadside Assistance "Wrench" button). Make sure the BMW Assist Response Center has received the correct MIN/MDN, VIN and location of the vehicle. Have the representative update their records as needed.
