SITUATION
Effective July 15, 2003, all 2000 and later model year passenger cars produced after March 1, 2000, and offered for sale or lease in the State of Vermont, must bear a mercury content label, if the vehicle contains a mercury containing component. This label must be affixed to the driver's side B-pillar in the area of the door latch or just below the tire pressure label also found on the door pillar.

New vehicles shipped to BMW centers in VT, NY, NH, MA, ME, RI and CT will have the labels affixed at the Vehicle Distribution Centers.

Vermont BMW centers that receive cars through dealer trades from other states will be responsible for installing the appropriate label. Vermont BMW centers will receive an initial quantity of labels for vehicles in current inventory and dealer trades. Any vehicles in center inventory, that have Xenon headlamps and/or Navigation displays, must have the label affixed to the B-pillar.

Additional labels can be ordered on-line at the BMW TIS website.

A label will be mailed to owners of affected vehicles together with a letter explaining where to apply the label to their vehicle.
