54 34 101 Removing And Installing Complete Convertible Top
Closing convertible top:
Note: In event of a technical fault, close convertible top by hand.
Remove auxiliary brake light.
Remove ventilation louver (1) on left and right in convertible top compartment.
Pull convertible top compartment interior panel out of tensioning frame (1).
Detach locking pin (1) from center convertible top brace.
Unlock convertible top brace and force off completely from base plate (2).
Note: To avoid problems when lifting out the convertible top, make sure the convertible top brace remains unlocked.
Detach locking pin (1) on left and right from convertible top brace.
Unlock convertible top brace and force off completely from base plate (2).
Note: To avoid problems when lifting out the convertible top, make sure the convertible top braces remain unlocked.
Opening convertible top:
Note: In event of a technical fault, open convertible top by hand.
Lift rubber covering (1) on left and right on B-pillar.
Unscrew bolt (2).
Pull rubber covering (1) on left and right upwards and expand retainer (2) in so doing.
Caution:
- Risk of damage!
- On left and right, tape off top edge of side panel with fabric adhesive tape (1) (sourcing reference: BMW Parts Service).
If necessary, cover side panels and rear lid.
Press off panel on left side on inside of B-pillar.
Disconnect plug connections (1) to (4).
Press off panel on right side on inside of B-pillar.
Disconnect plug connection (1).
Slide locking clip (1) on left and right upwards.
Unclip hydraulic stamp towards inside.
Release screw (1) and nut (2) on left and right.
Release nut (1) on left and right.
Pull off convertible top compartment seal (2).
Detach convertible top compartment seal (1) from outer skin all round.
Separate tensioning frame (1) on left and right from convertible top frame (2) with a suitable tool (3) (e.g. large screwdriver).
Remove sill cover.
Remove rubber grommet (2) from sill (1).
Installation:
Feed hose (3) through rubber grommet (2).
Insert rubber grommet (3) in sill (1).
Caution: A 2nd person is needed to help carry out the following tasks.
Raise convertible top in following sequence over outer skin:
- Convertible top frame, left
- Tensioning frame, left
- Convertible top frame, right
- Tensioning frame, right
Feed out water drain (1) on left and right towards top.
Lift out convertible top at rear and set down outside vehicle.
Note down number of shims (1) and (2) on left and right.
Note: Panel material must not cover shims. If necessary, cut out panel.
Installation:
Adjust EH convertible top.
Caution: Do not kink or damage water drain pockets (2).
Detach convertible top compartment seal (1) from tensioning frame.
Installation:
Coat rubber lip with antiseize agent or tire mounting paste.
