Location Of Checkpoints For Front Seat With Seat-Integrated Belt System (SGS)

CAUTION:
Observe safety regulations for handling airbag modules and pyrotechnical seat belt tensioners.
Inexpert handling can trigger off the airbag or the belt tensioner and thus cause injury.
The plug connections for the pyrotechnical seat belt tensioners are no longer marked "Orange"!

CAUTION: If a seat belt damaged in an accident is replaced, always check the seat affected for damage.

Checking contact surface of inertia reel for deformation:

Partially strip seat back.
Front view of stripped front seat (seat surface):
The contact surface of the inertia reel (1) must not show any signs of deformation. Contact surface must be flat!
Retaining screw of inertia reel (2) must not show any signs of deformation or cracks!
Replace front seat if contact surface is deformed, and/or deformation is identified in area of retaining screw of inertia reel.

Rear view of stripped front seat:
The contact surface of the inertia reel (1) must not show any signs of deformation. Contact surface must be flat!
Retaining screw of inertia reel (2) must not show any signs of deformation or cracks!
Thread must not be damaged.
Replace front seat if contact surface is deformed, and/or deformation is identified in area of retaining screw of inertia reel.

Checking seat back for torsion/deformation:

Partially strip seat back.
Rear view of stripped front seat:
Check surface of Y-plate (1) for deformation
No dents, kinks or any other forms of damage should be discernible.

Front view of stripped front seat (seat surface):
Check surface of Y-plate (1) for deformation.
No dents, kinks or any other forms of damage should be discernible.

If deformation is visible, this points to seat back torsion.
Replace front seat if there are traces of deformation.

Checking parallel position of head restraint to seat back:

Remove head restraint.
Press back cover and padding of head restraint as far as possible.
Head restraint carrier must not be deformed.
There should be no discernible deviation all round when a 90° angle is applied!
Replace front seat if there are traces of deformation.

Head restraint carrier must not be deformed!
If necessary, strip head restraint completely.
Check head restraint carrier for deformation.
Head restraint carrier must not be deformed.
There should be no discernible deviation all round when a 90° angle is applied!
Replace front seat if there are traces of deformation.

If doubts arise during measurement, strip head restraint completely and reinstall head restraint carrier.

Strip seat back to such an extent, that parallelism to seat back can be checked when head restraint carrier is fitted.

Measure parallelism of head restraint carrier to seat back.
If the head restraint carrier is not deformed and this check identifies a deviation in parallelism, this means that the seat back is deformed.
Replace front seat.

NOTE: If a seat belt which is damaged due to an accident is exchanged, always check the retaining bracket of the belt tensioner on the seat runner for damage and replace if necessary.

A bent seatbelt tensioner retaining bracket on the seat runner may make it impossible to adjust the height of the seat!

Check retaining bracket (1) of pyrotechnical belt tensioner on seat runner for damage (bending), replace if necessary.
Repair kit, refer to BMW Pants Service.
To replace retaining bracket, release screw (2) and remove retaining bracket (1).

Installation Note: Tightening torque: 45 Nm
