Replacing Left Or Right Fixed Door Window In Rear Window Frame


CAUTION: The "Window cementing instructions" serve as the basis for this repair instruction and must be observed without fail.


Remove window guide rail of rear door at rear with anti-trapping mechanism.
Remove decorative strip on window frame of rear door (top).







Detach window cavity seal (1) from rear door at quarter light.

Installation Note: If necessary, replace faulty clips (2).







Mask door window and body flange all round with fabric adhesive tape (1).

Due to different position of adhesive bead:
Adjust blade starting roller differently in areas (A) to (D) (risk of damage).







Cutting depths for areas (A) to (D):
Fit straight blade with adjustable starting roller (sourcing reference: BMW Parts Service) on tool.

Adjusting length (X):
Area (A) Length (X) = 25 mm
Area (B) Length (X) = 19 mm
Area (C) Length (X) = 15 mm
Area (D) Length (X) = 22 mm


NOTE: Prior to each use, regrind the blade with a grinding stone while the machine is running (new blades also).







Carefully insert knife blade between body and door window.
Run handle of knife parallel to door window.
Pull door window outwards to remove.







Only when reusing the door window:
Remove frame (1).
Detach fabric adhesive tape (2) all round and clean door window with spirit.
Carefully remove glue residue on door window with universal knife (razor sharp) to thickness of approx. 0.5 mm.
Fit new frame (1).

Overview of door window bonding, fixed, rear (E53):







Attach special tool 51 3 010 to tool trolley. Moisten suction surfaces and secure door window. Also secure special tool 51 3 221.
When reusing old door window, remove residual adhesive to 0.5 mm.
Almost vertical part (B) of adhesive bead (1) must face frame (5).
The different adhesive bead sizes are obtained by means of differing application rates. The adhesive beads for normal and double glazing are the same.
Spread adhesive bead (4) with special tool 00 9 322.







First, carefully position door window (1) with special tool 51 3 221 at bottom, align at sides and install catches (2) in mounts (3).
Secure door window in position with fabric adhesive tape.
