Seat Belt Systems: Service and Repair

Removing And Installing/Replacing Front Seat Belt (Z8)


Caution! Observe safety regulations for handling airbag modules and pyrotechnical seat belt tensioners.


Inexpert handling can trigger off the airbag or the belt tensioner and thus cause injury.
Remove and install left or right front seat, 52 10 000.
Remove and install rear left or right side trim panel, 51 43 015.
Remove and install rear side panel.

If necessary, release screw (1) and remove seat belt.

Installation:
Note position of mount on seat frame:
1 = Retaining screw
Tightening torque, 72 11 1AZ.
2 = Retaining lugs between which tab on seat belt (3) must be located
3 = Tab on seat belt







Setup of seat belt tab on seat frame:

1. Screw
2. Tab on seat belt
3. Retaining disk







Pyrotechnical belt tensioner:
Open cable tie (1) and remove cover for plug connection for belt tensioner.
Disconnect plug connection (2) for belt tensioner.

Installation:
Secure cable with cable tie (1) so that plug connection for belt tensioner is not under strain.
Release screw (3).
Tightening torque, 72 11 13AZ.







Observe turning lock of belt tensioner on seat:
1. Screw
2. Belt tensioner
3. Spacing washer
4. Turning lock on seat frame

Belt tensioner must be engaged in turning lock on seat frame!







Release screw (1) and remove reversing clip.
Both lugs (2) serve as turning lock.

Installation:
Tightening torque, 72 11 6AZ.







Installation:
Lug (1) must snap into place in bore (2). Lug (2) rests on surface (4).







Remove clips (1, 2, 3).
Remove cover for top belt (4).







Release screw (1) and slide inertia reel upwards (2), then remove reel towards front (3).

Installation:
Tightening torque, 72 11 9AZ.







Installation:
Coding (1) of automatic reel must be seated in opening (2) of body.
