[NEW] SITUATION
Customer complains of the rattling or screeching noises upon cold start of the engine. The noise will usually dissipate after the engine warms up. Cold weather aggravates the condition. Noise comes from the area of a mechanical alternator belt tensioner.

CORRECTION
ON A CUSTOMER COMPLAINT BASIS ONLY, and only after the original mechanical belt tensioner in the vehicle has failed, replace the mechanical tensioner with the hydraulic style tensioner and install a new Ribbed V-Belt.

PROCEDURE
Perform preliminary alternator drive belt replacement steps as outlined in TIS repair instructions 11 28 010.

Relieve tension on the drive belt by rotating tensioner (1) in a clockwise direction. Remove alternator drive belt (2)

Remove bolt (2) and upper deflection pulley (1) and put aside.

Remove upper and lower mechanical belt tensioner bolts (2) and remove tensioner assembly (1)

Assemble new tensioner components as shown. Install bolt 8 (P/N 07 11 9 913 111) in position shown. Insert bolt 6 (07 11 9 901 785) and 7 ( 07 11 9 912 652) in preparation for installation on engine.

Install the assembly on the engine. Note: Hydraulic tensioner is held in place by 3 bolts. Upper bolt 6 ( 07 11 9 901 785) lower bolt 7 ( 07 11 9 912 652) and left side bolt 9 (07 11 9 913 111)

Install tensioner pulley (4) taking care to position the mudguard (#5) correctly. The dished portion faces to the front. Reinstall upper deflection pulley and install new belt in reverse of removal instructions.
