Mounting of Directional Tires

SITUATION
Certain high performance tires approved for use on BMW vehicles are designated as directional, meaning that they are designed to rotate in a certain direction when mounted on the vehicle. The direction of rotation is indicated by an arrow molded into the sidewall of the tire.

PROCEDURE
When mounting directional tires, the wheel position on the vehicle must be taken into consideration, so that the rotation is in the specified direction when the wheel and tire assembly is on the vehicle.

When transcribing the DOT numbers of tires during the QC1 inspection, all directional tires should be checked to ensure that they are correctly mounted, and corrected as necessary.
