54 34 005 Removing And Installing/Replacing Hydraulic Unit
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Follow repair instructions for hydraulic system
- Stow convertible top in convertible top compartment (refer to Owner's Manual/Handbook)
- Remove luggage compartment trim on left.
- If necessary, remove holder for navigation computer
- If necessary, remove radio receiver with holder
Hydraulic unit with soundproofing:
Release screw (1), remove holder.
Unscrew nut (1).
Installation:
3AZ Hydraulic unit to body or carrier 10 Nm
Remove hydraulic unit sideways from bracket.
Carefully detach lower soundproofing sheet towards bottom.
Carefully pull away upper soundproofing sheet at line side (joint) sideways and then remove towards top.
Installation:
Opening (1) must be located over plastic retainer (2).
CAUTION:
- Depressurize hydraulic system.
- A small amount of hydraulic fluid may emerge when hydraulic lines are disconnected. Have absorbent cloths ready.
Bend back plastic retainers (1) slightly from hydraulic line and detach towards top.
Press locks (2) to right.
Detach hydraulic lines.
Replacement only:
Disconnect plug connection (1).
Hydraulic unit without soundproofing:
Disconnect plug connection (1).
Unclip wiring harness holder (2).
Release nut (3).
Installation:
3AZ Hydraulic unit to body or carrier 10 Nm
Remove hydraulic unit (4) from holder to front top out of mount (5).
CAUTION:
- Depressurize hydraulic system.
- A small amount of hydraulic fluid may emerge when hydraulic lines are disconnected. Have absorbent cloths ready.
Bend back plastic retainers (1) slightly from hydraulic line and detach towards top.
NOTE: Use a screwdriver or similar tool.
Press locks (1) to right.
Detach hydraulic lines.
Replacement only:
Unlock relay and detach from relay receptacle.
Retrofitting to new hydraulic unit:
- For cable connection, add an adapter (sourcing reference: BMW Parts Service)
- Adapt software
CAUTION: If line connections on the hydraulic unit or the hydraulic lines remain open for an extended period of time (e.g. storage, waiting period), they must be protected against the ingress of moisture.
