51 36 070 Removing And Installing Left Or Right Rear Side Window (Touring)

CAUTION:
- The "Instructions for window cementing" are an essential part of these repair instructions and must be followed without fail.
- Remove inside window cavity trim for side window at rear.


CAUTION:
- Cover rear side panels with protective covers.
- Tape off body on inside around side window with fabric adhesive tape.
- In addition, mask area around C-pillar finisher on rear door.








Pull off finisher (1) with clips (2).







Installation:
If necessary, replace faulty clips (1) on finisher (2).







Release screws (1) and remove mounting (2) for luggage compartment roller cover.







Left side window:
If necessary, disconnect plug connections (1)and(2).
Secure connector and cable to side window with adhesive tape (danger of damage).

Installation:
Lay cable into opening.

CAUTION:
- When reusing the side window:
- If necessary, tape off all antenna wires on side window with fabric adhesive tape (3) (risk of damage).








Due to different position of adhesive bead:
Adjust starting roller of blade in areas (A) and (B) differently (risk of damage).
A scalpel is used for area (C).







Cutting depth for area (A) and (B):
Fit straight blade with adjustable starting roller (sourcing reference: BMW Parts Service) on tool.

Adjusting length (X):







NOTE: Sharpen knife blade before every use on a running machine with a grinding stone (even with new knife blade).







A scalpel (1) is used for area (C) on the C pillar (for severe contamination).







Cutting depths for area (C):







Cut away areas (A) and (B) from inside.
Carefully insert knife blade between body and side window gasket.
Guide blade parallel to side window gasket. Cut through glue bead as close to body as possible.







CAUTION:
- Do not press down too hard on scalpel (risk of damaging the PVC spray-coating).
- Carefully cut through adhesive bead with a scalpel in area of C-pillar.
- During cutting, a second person must grip special tool 51 3 010 and pull rear side window outwards.
- Remove side window with special tool 51 3 010.







Installation:

Remove rest of dual-lock tapes (1) and clean bonding area.
Stick new dual-lock tapes (1) onto raised body areas.
Dual-lock tapes on side window must match these dual-lock tapes.

R2 approx. 22 mm

Attach special tool 51 3 010 to tool trolley. Moisten suction surfaces and secure side window.
When reusing old side window, remove residual adhesive to 0.5 mm.
Remove rest of dual-lock tapes (9). Clean bonding area and stick on new dual-lock tapes (9).
Almost vertical part (B) of adhesive bead (1) must face PVC spray coating (5).
Spread adhesive bead with special tool 00 9 322.







Fit side window with special tool 51 3 010 at bottom. Chrome strip (1) must be flush at front with body edge (2).







Attach side window at top (1) and slide completely to rear (2).
Close rear door.
Adapt side window if necessary to rear-door and snap into dual-lock tapes.
Fix side window in position with yellow plastic adhesive tape (sourcing reference: BMW Parts Service).
